Guardian vision insurance question

My wife's new job offers vision through Guardian, which I've never used before. When I looked it up, it says it uses the VSP network?

That's what's confusing me. Does Guardian just underwrite the plan and VSP handles the actual services? Or is it more like Guardian is the carrier and you just get access to VSP doctors?

Would love to hear from anyone who's actually used this setup.

From what Ive seen, Guardian often underwrites the vision plan while partnering with VSP to provide the network and services. So basically guardian handles the insurance side, and you get access to VSPs extensive doctor network. Its a smart setup to combine strong coverage with a trusted provider

Why do you think they partnered with VSP, are you hoping to keep a specific eye doctor or just trying to make sure coverage works the same as a full VSP plan would?

Okay, so Guardian's the insurance company that covers you, and VSP is who you go to for care. You get VSP's perks, but Guardian's paying the bills and running the show
